MORE than £100,000 has been raised for charity after 650 walkers trekked to Salisbury Cathedral.

Taking place on Sunday, the 26-mile walk saw walkers setting off from Winchester – with hundreds more completing a shorter walk from the village of Broughton – as they made their way to the medieval city.

The cash will go to charity Naomi House and Jacksplace, which supports seriously ill children and young adults at the region’s specialist hospices.

And now the charity has set its supporters a new challenge by launching two walks designed to test trekkers to the limit.

Billed "Ultimate Clarendon", next year’s event will include a 26-mile night hike from Salisbury to Winchester and a 52-mile ultra-challenge that will see participants taking part in the overnight walk then heading back to Salisbury the next day.

In addition, the charity has also launched a 5k trek aimed specifically at children and families. This walk will begin at the village of Pitton.

Keith Wilson, head of marketing for Naomi House & Jacksplace, said: “We would like to thank our incredible Clarendon Way Walk participants who have raised enough money to fund around 4,200 hours of nursing care for some of the region’s most seriously ill children and young people.

"We know that some supporters who complete the Clarendon Way Walk then go on to look for an even bigger challenge, so we are really pleased to be able to offer the Ultimate Clarendon in 2020.”

The Clarendon Way Walk is the hospice’s largest annual fundraiser and has grown considerably since it was first staged some 13 years ago. It has been joined on the charity’s event calendar by a huge range of fundraising events from Wing Walks to Glow Runs.
