A HAMPSHIRE council leader has demanded two MPs back a People’s Vote on EU membership.

Eastleigh Borough Council leader Keith House has called on Mims Davies, Conservative MP for Eastleigh, and Steve Brine, Conservative MP for Winchester and Chandler’s Ford, to let the public have the final say on Brexit.

Cllr House, who represents Hedge End South on the Borough Council, said: “Eastleigh voters have clearly voted for parties that back a referendum other than a hard no-deal Brexit.

“The Liberal Democrats, Greens and Change UK easily outpolled the Brexit Party and UKIP that want a hard no-deal Brexit, with the Labour and Conservative parties barely getting one in ten of voters between them.”

He added: “The time is right for our MPs to listen to Eastleigh voters and back a People’s Vote or simply to revoke Brexit that would cost Eastleigh jobs and make Eastleigh people poorer.”

This call for change comes after the Brexit Party and the Liberal Democrats celebrated successful results in the South East in this year’s European elections, which were announced in the early hours of Monday.

Nigel Farage and his party members Alex Phillips, Robert Rowland and Belinda De Camborne Lucy won four of the ten seats available. Catherine Bearder, who represents the Liberal Democrats, retained her seat and Lib Dems Antony Hook and Judith Bunting were also elected.
