EMERGENCY services rushed to a Southampton river this morning after reports that two people were seen in the water.
Police, fire, ambulances and coastguard crews were all called to the River Itchen under Northam Bridge at 5.07am after concerns that a boat had capsized.
Police conducted a search of the area but no-one was found.
Officers called off the search in the water but are continuing to make enquiries on land.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 5.07am this morning regarding a concern for welfare of two people seen in the water.
"It is believed a boat had capsized.
"We conducted a thorough search of the area but no-one was located.
"Teams were stood down but we are continuing enquiries on land."
