A HAMPSHIRE murderer jailed for life in March has been back in the same court, to be sentenced for aggravated burglary.

Charlie Cooper, who turned 20 last Saturday, was jailed for four years for two burglaries in 2017, the year before he murdered Courtney Jones.

A trial at Winchester heard that with his brother Sidney, 26, he had carried out a frenzied knife attack on Mr Jones, 26, from Sheffield, Yorkshire, outside a property in Salisbury Road, Totton on August 25 last year.

Charlie will serve a minimum of 15 years before he is eligible for parole and Sidney will be inside for 18 years. The trial heard the motive was unclear.

Daily Echo:

In the latest case Cooper, formerly of Ashby Road, Totton, pleaded guilty to the two burglary offences.

The court heard that both occurred on June 23 2017. The first was at a shed at a property in Monkeys Jump, West Wellow when Cooper entered armed with a crowbar, leading to the aggravated charge and stole a hedgetrimmer, value unknown.

The second was a garage at a house on Ringwood Road, Woodlands.

Judge Keith Cutler, the Recorder of Winchester, said the sentences would be concurrent to the murder sentence.

As previously reported, Mr Jones commonly known as Timmy, had been visiting his friend Bethany Fee at the address in Salisbury Road on the day of his murder.

The Cooper brothers were in another nearby home.

Sometime after 7pm the pair had been trying to get into Ms Fee’s home, but when Mr Jones came out to confront them.

The pair attacked Jones, who was kicked, punched, stamped on and hit over head with a brick, before Sidney stabbed the 26-year-old victim with a kitchen knife “at least twice”.

The pair were found guilty of murder after a five week trial at Winchester Crown Court.
