ROMSEY residents can take place in six days worth of events as part of dementia action week.
The events have been organised by Romsey Dementia Action Group and will take place from May 20 until May 25.
A wide variety of activities will take place over the six days including a cheer leading event which will take place at the Abbey United Reformed Church on May 20 at 12:45pm, a sporting memories network event which will take place at Romsey Rapids Sports Centre on May 22 at 1pm plus much more.
Ian Bradford, 63, is one of the founders of Romdag alongside Janet Pratley and Marianne Piggin.
They set up Romdag in 2014 after Romsey became the first dementia friendly town
and the group started holding activities for dementia action week in 2015.
Ian said: “Dementia affects so many people.
“I have worked in the health industry for many years so I have seen first hand how it affects people and their family’s.”
Ian said across the week there will be lots of sensory activities.
He said: “It can be a socially isolating lifestyle.
“Its important that people with dementia have fun and participate in activities that are rewarding and engaging”
He added: “The events taking place will also assist carers and give them a chance to have a break.”
Across the week, residents can also attend a number of free dementia awareness sessions.
Anyone interested in learning more about dementia and how they can help people around them are welcome.
