THE annual glory of bluebells have not disappointed at a wood near Winchester.

The flowers have just opened and are putting on a fabulous show of colour at Micheldever Wood.

The ancient woodland, managed by Forestry England, is well known across the UK as one of the best places in the South of England’s to see a stunning display of these spring flowers.

The flowers can be found across the 620-acre wood but the best places to visit are the central and northern end of the wood where the forest floor is covered in a beautiful purple haze.

Forestry England looks after Micheldever Wood, planting new trees each year and periodically thinning to help increase light levels encouraging bluebells and other plants to flourish on the forest floor.

This work also helps to support the habitats of the wildlife living in the woods home including bats, butterflies and bird life.
