TITCHFIELD Festival Theatre’s popular Bard at the Barn is back again this summer, featuring a number of Shakespeare’s best loved plays.

There will be no fewer than six productions this year, including Shakespeare’s ‘forgotten’ rock and roll masterpiece – Return to the Forbidden Planet, based on the playwright’s celebrated The Tempest as well as the iconic B-movie The Forbidden Planet and Lost in Space.

The historic Great Barn is located only yards away from where England’s most celebrated writer lived and worked for a time.

This year, the theatre has chosen William Shakespeare’s most popular plays to give the season a lighter touch including several comedy masterpieces.

All of the plays start with the letter T, including a performance by the Titchfield Festival Youth Theatre – Time Please, Mr Shakespeare, directed by Johnny O’Hanlon. The other plays are Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night and The Tempest.

Kevin Fraser, Artistic Director of Titchfield Festival Theatre said: “This year’s Bard at the Barn season will be a real treat for those who love Shakespeare.”

The 2019 Shakespeare in the Great Barn season will open on Tuesday May 28 and continue until Thursday September 5.

Performances take place at the Great Barn, Mill Lane, Titchfield, with the exception of Return to the Forbidden Planet, which will be performed at the Oak Theatre, St Margarets Lane.
