STAFF from a Winchester school are set to lace up their running trainers to raise funds for a Hampshire hospital.

A team of 15 from Kings' will be completing either a half or full marathon on May 5, in aid of the Piam Brown Ward at Southampton Children's Hospital.

The department is the Wessex children's cancer unit, and has recently supported a Year 10 pupil from the school, who has asked not to be named.

She was diagnosed last year and spent six months as a patient, undergoing three operations and still remains under care, returning for check ups and physio appointments.

Deputy headteacher, Rob Jeckells said: "Everyone at the Piam Brown Ward went out of their way to make sure our pupil was as well cared for as possible; her family has said that the ward has been amazing with excellent support provided for them as well.

"As school staff, we wanted to do something to place our thanks to them on record, and to give something back to them.

A JustGiving online donation page has been set up by staff, and has received nearly half of the £5,000 target.

Rob added: "We hope that as many people as possible will donate to our cause and help the Piam Brown Ward to continue to carry out their excellent work."
