ALRESFORD Bowling Club has received a £500 donation from a national construction company working in the town.

Retirement housebuilders McCarthy and Stone are currently working on a new site in The Dean, set to provide an independent living community for the over-70s.

Sales executive Julie Mansbridge met the chairman of the bowling club, Angela Peel, and club captain, Steve Day, to present them with a cheque.

Angela said: “I am delighted to receive this donation from McCarthy and Stone on behalf of all at the club.

“We have an important and busy season ahead of us and having a well-maintained green is essential to the experience of our members and visitors.

“Financial support from local businesses can make a real difference to the continued success of the club and we look forward to building on our relationship with McCarthy and Stone in the future.”

The club will invest the funds into the maintenance of its green, as well as promotional leaflets to try recruit more members.

Julie said: “As a company, we appreciate that our responsibility is not only to build quality, purpose-built retirement communities, but also to create a positive legacy in the areas in which we build.

Alresford Bowling Club is widely known within the region. A welcoming and sociable group, it provides somewhere for people – young and old – to meet and make new friends.

“The club is of great benefit to people living in the Alresford area, including future homeowners at Wayfarer Place, and we are delighted to be able to support such a worthy local cause.”
