CELEBRATING Christmas has cost a Winchester man his driving licence for 18 months.

Marius Asavouie, 22, was stopped by police in Black Dam Way, Basingstoke, on Christmas Eve, magistrates in the town heard.

His alcohol reading was 67 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, nearly double the legal limit.

Asavouie, of Stoney Lane, Weeke, also admitted having no insurance.

He was fined £600 in total and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The ban will be cut by 138 days if Asavouie passes an appioved driving course by February 19 2020.
