MARCHWOOD residents turned out in force to celebrate their annual carnival.

Hundreds of children and scores of adults followed and rode on the floats, while hundreds more lined the village roads on July 11, 1999.

Although it was very much a village effort, there was a big international flavour to the day.

The Women’s Institute included Turkish, Spanish, Mongolian and Mexican costumes on its ‘Worldwide’ float.

Marchwood Sports and Social club beat them to the top spot with its Caribbean theme.
