MOTORISTS are being warned of a planned Brexit protest on a key motorway on Monday.
Dozens of members of an organisation called Brexit Protest and Direct Action Group UK have said they would be taking part in a 'go-slow' protest on the M3 from Junction 6 for Basingstoke from 6.30am on Monday.
The action is proposed for both directions of the key motorway.
Businesses have already been issued with a warning that HGVs and other types of vehicles could be used to deliberately drive slowly and block roads.
Further 'go-slow' events have also been posted on Facebook for action at locations across the country including on the M1, the M4 and the M62, alongside numerous ferry terminals and docks today (Friday) from 5.30pm.
A Highways England spokesperson said: “Our focus is on providing a safe, reliable network for the millions of drivers who use our motorways and major A roads every day.”
The events have provoked a strong backlash online with critics citing the disruption caused to commuters looking to get to and from work and emergency services.
Hampshire Constabulary has been contacted for comment.
