CRAIG Stuart Charles who contacted a woman when banned by a court order has narrowly avoided prison.

Charles, 25, of Teg Down Meads, Winchester, admitted contacting the woman on November 17 last year when prohibited by a restraining order passed on October 9 2017.

Magistrates jailed him for 16 weeks but suspended the sentence for 18 months.

The magistrates said the offence was worsened by being committed on bail and it had caused distress to the victim and a young child.

They imposed a community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to 25 days and the order to do 80 hours unpaid work as well as £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

The restraining order continues until October 8 2019 banning Charles from going to Gordon Road and Arlington Place in Hyde.
