Residents have labelled plans to alter the roads and pedestrian crossings by Asda in Llandudno "stupid".

Works, which will begin on February 18, will see the road and pedestrian crossing widened in front of the Fire and Ambulance Station on Conway Road, Llandudno.

As part of the changes motorists will also no longer be able to turn right into the Asda carpark, coming from Parc Llandudno.

The changes have not been taken well by Llandudno residents with the main concern raised extra congestion at the roundabout by the Links Hotel on Conway Road.

Ian Hulme, on the Pioneer Facebook page, said: “What a stupid idea. So all traffic from Parc Llandudno will have to travel to the already very busy Links roundabout if they want to go to Asda?

“Who comes up with these ridicules ideas? Surly it is better to travel a few hundred yards to get to Asda from Parc Llandudno causing no congestion and reducing the journey distance/time.”

Peg and Norm Hughes said: “So coming from the Parc and Champneys you have to go down to the already jammed links roundabout, cars can be heavy coming Down Conwy road and getting out of Maesdu Road is a nightmare.”

A CCBC spokesperson said the aim of the changes was to make it safer for pedestrians and to speed up the traffic light sequences.

Works will run for more than a month, concluding on March 22, but Conwy County Borough Council have said the car parks for both Asda and Parc Llandudno will be unaffected.

While the Asda and Parc Llandudno car parks will remain unaffected there are set to be lane closures in place throughout the area set to disrupt the traffic flow.

The work is part of a bigger programme by CCBC to improve traffic flow around Llandudno.

The work will be done by CCBC contractors MWT Civil Engineers Ltd.

The spokesperson added: "Thank you for your patience while we carry out this improvement work. We apologise for any inconvenience."
