PLANS have been submitted to expand a city centre sandwich chain in Winchester.

The proposals, if approved, would see a single-storey extension added in the rear yard of Subway, which fronts onto The Broadway.

A planning statement, produced by Piper Whitlock Architecture Ltd on behalf of the applicant listed only as ‘Capocci’, said: “This application is a very minor development of a small unobtrusive rear yard facilitating an improved retail unit that has negligible impact on its Conservation Area setting or on the site’s environment.

“There is no obvious reason that this application should not be approved.”

As previously reported, the Subway building was recently bought by Winchester City Council in a land transaction linked to the Silver Hill 2 scheme.

The deal included a number of other buildings fronting onto The Broadway, as well as Friarsgate Medical Practice.

So far, no objections have been lodged against the Subway plans.
