IT’S THE Hampshire school with a focus on enrichment.
Each term there are more than 400 free club places for children in years one to six at Colden Common Primary School.
Year R youngsters join in the summer term - and all children have the choice of joining up to 18 clubs run by staff, parents and volunteers at lunchtime, after school or before school.
Head teacher Frances Hardy said: “We are very fortunate to have a staff team with a variety of skills and interests, all of whom are keen to give up their own time to share these with the children.
“Our selection of clubs changes each term in order to ensure that children have as many different opportunities and experiences as possible and, of course, we have a wide range of seasonal sports offerings such as running, football and tag rugby, which have helped us to achieve the Gold School Games Mark.
“Even the children are keen to get involved and we have a number of clubs led by them, such as a wonderful book club run by some of our Year 6 children.
“The clubs also enhance the relationships between the adults and children, allowing children to ‘have a go’ and shine in areas that we may not see as part of the school day.”
A £331 grant from the Premier League and FA has meant the school could buy new goal posts - used by 70 girls and boys in their two clubs. Colden Common Youth Football Club u12s team also trains at the school - playing in the Southampton and District Tyro League.
