A WINCHESTER man has been fined after he was prosecuted for alleged speeding twice in eight days.

Charles Robin Meeres, 54, of Harrow Down, Badger Farm, was recorded speeding on August 7 on the B3354 Winchester Road at Fair Oak, near Eastleigh.

He was measured driving at 40mph in a 30-zone, Aldershot Magistrates Court heard. The case was later withdrawn by prosecutors for an unspecified reason.

But Meeres was convicted of failing to give information to police about the identity of a driver believed to have committed an offence.

Magistrates fined him £660 with a £66 victim surcharge and £85 costs. Six penalty points were added to his licence.

On August 15 he was caught breaking the speed limit whilst driving a 33-plate BMW at 89mph on the A31 at Bentley, near Alton, where the speed limit is 70.

For this offence he was fined £440 with a £44 victim surcharge and £85 costs. Four points were added to his licence by magistrates at Aldershot.

The total financial penalty was £1,380.

Meeres was not present at either court hearing and the cases were decided by the single justice procedure.
