A GIRL with cerebral palsy has received a £1,000 donation from a housebuilder to help adapt her family home.

Annabelle Brabham’s family, from Otterbourne, applied to Persimmon Homes South Coast to become one of its Community Champions.

Each month under the match-funded scheme, the company donates up to £2,000 to help two people or community groups within the region.

The ten year-old’s mother, Sandra, said: “We cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for its support. Annabelle has cerebral palsy which affects her walking, talking and ability to feed herself.

“We approached Tree of Hope to help us raise the money to adapt our home to make it more accessible for Annabelle. We have received a grant of £30,000 from Winchester City Council, but this will not cover all the costs.

“Therefore, we are busy fundraising - my friend, Sharon Blyth, and I have already run the Winchester half marathon raising £1,000.”

Work on the house will include a downstairs bedroom and wet room, together with making the downstairs more accessible by widening doorways.

Matt Paine, managing director for Persimmon Homes South Coast, said: “It’s clear that the support Annabelle receives from her family is truly wonderful, and we are delighted that we can help in this way.

“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again this year and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”

A further £1,000 was donated to the Victory Indoor Bowling Club in Portsmouth to make up the monthly sum of £2,000.

The scheme is completed by each of the 29 Persimmon businesses across the UK, including the head office in York, meaning up to £60,000 is distributed to those in need every month.
