THE war memorial at St Andrew’s Church in Meonstoke has been rededicated.

A service was led by the Archdeacon of the Meon, the Venerable Gavin Collins on January 6.

This came after the memorial underwent a restoration project towards the end of 2018.

The tribute benefited from a grant of £1,310 from War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme, supported by the First World War Memorials Programme.

Frances Moreton, director at War Memorials Trust said: "War memorials are a tangible connection to our shared past creating a link between the fallen and today.

"It is vital we ensure all our war memorials are in the best possible condition for their age and the charity is delighted to support this project. "The centenary of World War I was a wonderful opportunity for local communities across the country to protect and conserve their war memorials.

"If anyone knows of any other war memorials in need of help please contact us."

The donated money funded the restoration of the lychgate entrance to the church, which carries plaques dedicated to the fallen of both World Wars.
