A LAKE has been searched as police continued their hunt for clues in an attempted murder probe.

On Saturday night, officers were seen out on the water in Lakeside Country Park, in Eastleigh, with witnesses reporting numerous cops being out in force.

Hampshire Constabulary said the operation was part of its investigation into a "serious assault" which left a man fighting for his life.

A spokesperson added: "We can confirm that we are carrying out searches at Lakeside Country Park in Eastleigh in connection with the attempted murder at Heinz Burt Close on 21 December."

The incident took place at around 10.15pm on Heinz Burt Close.

At the time, police said a 23-year-old man from Winchester was found inside an address on the road with a serious head injury.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where his condition was described by police as life-threatening.

His next of kin were informed.

Residents told the Daily Echo they saw "blood everywhere" as they walked along the road.

Officers subsequently arrested three people and have since launched a hunt for a samurai sword.

No further action has been taken against the 17-year-old girl from Eastleigh who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

She was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released under investigation for this.

The 48-year-old man from Bursledon, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, has been released with no further action.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug of Class B and has been released under investigation for this.

The 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been bailed until Saturday, January 19.
