A REGIONAL charity has teamed up with the Winchester Christmas Market to help homeless people this season.

Emmaus Hampshire has launched a new campaign encouraging visitors to write festive cards for people seeking help with the charity.

Volunteers have designed a post box that will be installed at the market on December 17 for one day, where people can post cards for the homeless.

Nigel Samuels, chief executive of Emmaus Hampshire, said: “Whether they are living on the streets or being looked after by one of Winchester’s excellent charities, Christmas is often a lonely time for those who have found themselves homeless. Many of the people we meet are isolated from family, friends and, sometimes, the local community. That’s why we want to invite the public to send a strong message to homeless individuals in Hampshire that they are being thought about this Christmas.”

Members of the public can bring their own cards or write their message on a free card provided by the charity. Cards can also be sent to or left at any of Emmaus’ three shops before the day.

People are also encouraged to post festive greetings to the homeless on social media using the hashtag #HantsCards4Homeless.
