A PROCESSIONAL bike ride, which anyone can join, will be happening in Winchester, this weekend.

The Second Cycle Winchester Mass Ride will take place on December 15, at 10am.

Bike trains will start from Kings Worthy, Harestock and Badger Farm and stop in Headbourne Worthy, Weeke and Stanmore to pick up more riders. Once they reach Winchester, they will complete a few laps of the one-way system before riders pop into Abbey Gardens, for a seasonal treat.

The organiser is Cycle Winchester, a local community action group, responsible for the first ride back in May. Steering group member Sue Coles said: “We want to highlight the many benefits of cycling and encourage more people to get on their bikes and join us in our campaign to make Winchester better by bike.”

The event is open to anyone with a roadworthy bike, however the ride takes place on open roads, with experienced cyclists marshalling the group for safety.

Rob Jordan, ride organiser, said: “Cycle Winchester’s aim is simple; to get more people cycling, more often. The success of the first Mass Ride shows that people cycle in Winchester.”
