HUNDREDS of food lovers flocked to a new fair.

The Southampton Vegan Festival is only in its second year - but organiser Ellie Ataie says it will "definitely return" in 2019.

The Freemantle activist set up the event last year to cater for what she calls the biggest growing food movement.

There were demonstrations from experts in fields such as home made cleaning products, how to nurture your body, and beauty products - as well as a vegan speed dating session, hot yoga and growing food from scratch.

"Leather" retailers Lee and Jen Poynter from The Vegan Tannery had a range of bags and purses made from PU- a modern version of PVC - and cork.

Top TV chef Shelina Permaloo was on site with a Mauritian street food stall - selling delicious sliced of pineapple with tamarind, while gluten free brownies, cakes, pies and pasties filled the Guildhall room.

Ellie said: "There's quite a diverse range of products and it seems to be really popular especially with younger people - we've had a lot of students."
