FUNDRAISING students from an Andover school are shouting about their upcoming 24-hour charity challenge.

Winton Academy Year 11 pupils, Luis Wyatt, Roman Pitman, Owen Carpenter, Chloe Howard and Ellie Harris, will be taking on a 24-hour radio broadcast fundraiser on Thursday in aid of Children in Need.

It will be the second year the group has taken on the charity challenge, having raised around £450 last year.

Fifteen-year-old Luis said: “There was a lot of people who came up and said ‘are you going to do it again’, but it is quite a big thing to organise. This year is going to be much bigger, we have an interview with Kit Malthouse, councillors coming in and lots of fun games.”

The students will also host a live request show, along with providing traffic and news, and will broadcast on the school’s digital station Spark FM.

Luis added that the thought of the fundraising show is “nerve-racking”, but he is looking forward to presenting throughout the day to classmates and members of the public

“I am looking forward to people hearing the interview with Kit Malthouse and our request two hours where people can phone in live.”

He will be joined by Chloe, aged 15, who will be in charge of traffic news and says it will be a challenging staying up that long.

She said: “I think what I am most going to struggle with is when it becomes 5am, because we struggle to see through the lack of sleep.”

The group have written their scripts and are now hoping that people will tune in and donate to the good cause.

The pupils will be broadcasting from 4pm on November 15 until 4pm the following day.
