A WOOLSTON man has been assaulted in a road rage attack in Eastleigh.
Christopher Woyen, a lorry driver, was punched in the face knocking him to the ground following a collision on Leigh Road on Friday, November 9.
The 30-year-old, who was driving his car to the garage for scheduled repairs, joined stationary traffic on Leigh Road heading from central Eastleigh towards Chandlers Ford at the junction of Woodside Avenue.
The lights changed to green but as Chris began to move, the car driver in front slammed on the brakes and Chris went into the back of him.
The Woolston man said: "I understand that this was my fault really, for not leaving myself enough room to stop should they hit the brakes, but what followed was not my fault."
Whilst inspecting the damage to his own car, the man driving the car in front, which has been described as a small black Peugeot, began shouting and became aggressive.
He punched Chris in the face breaking his nose, fracturing his eye socket and cutting open his face before fleeing the scene after being confronted by an off-duty police woman.
Chris added: "I had not reacted to him at all by this point when suddenly I have been knocked backwards while looking at the damage to my car.
"Then I feel what I thought was rain trickling down my face, but it was warm, and then I saw it dripping onto my clothes and realised I was bleeding.
"I was shocked and worried as to what was going to happen next."
Chris spent six hours in A&E following extensive bleeding and has had to take time off work due to the swelling of his right eye.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: "At around 6.40pm on Friday 9 November, a Skoda Octavia was involved in a collision with another car described as a small black Peugeot on Leigh Road, near the junction with Woodside Avenue.
"The driver of the Skoda, a man in his 30s, was then assaulted by the driver of the Peugeot.
"The Peugeot then drove away from the scene."
