A MAN has been charged with a series of offences after a car crashed into a family home in Chandler’s Ford.

Eljado Prendaj, 25, of no fixed address, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.

Mr Prendaj was remanded in custody and was due to appear in Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A black Ford Mondeo smashed its way through the garden wall of Craig Collings semi detached house at 3am on Thursday.

The car damaged the front wall and propelled lumps of brick into the house just inches away from Mr Collings’ 16-year-old son’s bedroom window.

The house, on Leigh Road, suffered serious damage to the front wall and has been labelled unsafe by housing association Vivid House, which owns the property.

The car also knocked down a traffic light in the road outside the house.

The father-of-four said: “It was a shock at first, it wasn’t until I got to my mum’s house and had a coffee and thought did that just happen?

“Its scary because my son sleeps in the room downstairs and it was so close to him.”

“Vivid House, the housing association, have been really helpful.”

Police say they stopped the car minutes before the incident but it then drove off at speed.

The vehicle pulled over but drove off at speed soon after and attempted to speed round the corner of the M3 slip road that joins Leigh Road.

He subsequently crashed into the family home.

The family of six are currently staying in a hotel until Vivid House can find them a suitable home in the area.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “Officers were dealing with an incident in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 8 November) in which a Ford Mondeo collided with a house on Leigh Road, Chandlers Ford, next to the motorway slip road.

“No police pursuit had taken place.

“The driver sustained minor injuries in the collision.

“No one else was injured, but the house sustained significant damage.”
