EMERGENCY road works caused traffic chaos in Winchester this morning.
Drivers faced an hour long delay getting into the city this morning via Romsey Road.
Hampshire's travel service ROMANSE said the delay was due to temporary lights at Chilbolton Avenue.
It later became known that the works were coordinated by Southern Water.
A spokesperson from Southern Water said: "We’re pleased to say repairs to a leaking water pipe in Chilbolton Avenue, Winchester were completed this morning (Monday 5 November).
"Traffic management remained in place while we fixed the pipe and reinstated the road as quickly and safely as possible. The lights are currently being removed and the road should be fully reopened by rush hour this afternoon.
"We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank road users for their patience while we carried out this vital work."
