TWO men wanted by police for damaging barriers at a Southampton hospital have handed themselves in.

The 26-year-old and 36-year-old from Rownhams and North Baddesley contacted Hampshire police after an appeal for information was launched.

The men were wanted by police after vandalism at Royal South Hants Hospital. As reported the pair walked through the hospital car park at 1am on August 4, damaging two barriers before returning at 2.40am and damaging another barrier.

At the time police launched an appeal to find the culprits. Now they say the 36-year-old man from North Baddesley got in touch with police himself. A Hampshire police spokesperson said: "There was an overwhelming response to our appeal with people coming forward and naming the men.

"One of the men, a 36-year-old from North Baddesley, got in touch with us himself. He was spoken to by officers and given a Community Resolution in which he sent a letter of apology to the hospital and at the request of the hospital, made a donation to the hospital's League of Friends.

"The other man, a 26-year-old from Rownhams who was not involved in the damage itself, was dealt with by means of words of advice from officers."

PC Darryl Clarke, added: “The Community Resolution has been a positive outcome for all parties, giving the man the opportunity to take responsibility for his actions and make a donation as a way of apologising.

“Thank you to everyone who contacted us with information about this incident.”
