A MAN in his 80s was attacked in his own home after two burglars broke in.

Police received reports that two men had broken into the property in Selby Walk, Popley just after 8pm yesterday evening (October 18).

Once inside the men started threatening the home-owner, a man in his 80s, before stealing a quantity of cash and a cheque book.

One of the attackers also hit the victim on the head with a blunt object, leaving him with a cut to his head.

Police staff investigator Karen Slade said: “This was understandably an upsetting experience for this gentleman. Fortunately he did not require hospital treatment.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area that day.

“Did you see anyone hanging around matching the descriptions? Did you see anyone running off around 8pm yesterday?”

Both men are described as being white, in their mid-20s and of a medium build, with one of them believed to have been wearing a brown jacket.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have any information to contact 101 quoting 44180392998, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
