A WINCHESTER man who stole a charity collection tin has narrowly avoided a prison sentence.
Carl Philip Coles, 44, of Hyde Gate, Hyde, admitted taking the tin, valued at around £100, from Age UK on September 29.
He also admitted handling stolen goods taken from Nicholas Caiger between September 25-27.
Magistrates in Basingstoke jailed Coles for 16 weeks but suspended the sentence for 12 months and also imposed a six-week curfew between 7pm-7am until November 10. He was also ordered to pay £25 compensation.
In August he was jailed for 14 days for stealing items from two women.
