DRIVERS faced traffic chaos in Hampshire this morning after multiple crashes on two of the county's motorways.

Three crashes on the same stretch of the M3, near Winchester, sparked an hour long delay northbound and 40 minute delay Souhtampton.

Meanwhile, a crash on the M27 near Fareham sparked long delays in both directions.

The motorway chaos quickly spread, with roads including the A272 Spitfire Link near Winchester, the A32 in Fareham and link roads around Eastleigh all facing a build up of traffic.

The delays began shortly before 6.30am with a two vehicle crash on the M3 northbound between junctions 12 and 11, Winchester.

This was followed by a second crash on the same stretch of road around 7am.

Then, half an hour later, police were called to a four vehicle collision between junction 11 and junction 12.

It sparked a 70 minute delay, with traffic backing-up as far as the M27 junction.

Drivers faced 40 minute delays on the M3 southbound.

Traffic bosses later reported a fourth crash, this time on the M27.

The crash happened on the M27 eastbound, blocking lanes three and four near junction 11 for Fareham and junction 12 for Port Solent.

Drivers faced an hour long delay.

All of the crashes have now been cleared.
