SPARSHOLT graduates, lecturers, family, friends and supporters finished off the academic year in style with its graduation ceremony in Winchester Cathedral.

Students were presented with their degrees and prizes for individual endeavour and academic success as the class of 2018 embarked on the next stage of their lives.

In a packed cathedral, Principal Tim Jackson reviewed Sparsholt’s achievements through the year. He said: “I’m delighted to see 1,400 qualifications presented at today’s ceremonies. Many of our students are already in employment, often hundreds of miles from Winchester and overseas.

“Sparsholt graduates are recognised as a valuable asset to any businesses or organisations wanting the combination of expert knowledge, skilled professional standards and relevant industry experience Sparsholt graduates bring.

Sparsholt undergraduates and postgraduates follow many decades of their predecessors into professions involving Animals, Zoo, Veterinary Nursing, Equestrian Science and Performance, Aquaculture, Marine, Wildlife, Ecology, Conservation and Horticulture.”

Guest of Honour was broadcaster Alastair Stewart, who saluted those receiving their degrees: “I was born in Hampshire, I live with my family in Hampshire and Sparsholt is one of its most precious assets – for what it does, what it stands for and who it produces – the superstars of today.

“I have a passion about education: about the grit and determination of our young people to graft and succeed; about the dedication, flexibility and loyalty of a brilliant staff; and about the love and sacrifice of your parents in supporting their sons and daughters through this vital phase in their lives. At its heart, it is all about relationships between people and that precious relationship between people and the country in which we live.”

BSc (Hons) Equine Studies 2018 graduate Victoria Sly gave the vote of thanks on behalf of students: “We can all be grateful for everything we gained from Sparsholt – the opportunity to persist and strive and to achieve our dreams.”

The day also included presentations to Level 3 Diploma students who concluded their studies at Sparsholt this year.
