A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a crash on a busy Hampshire road.

The man, in his 50s, was involved in a collision with a Land Rover Discovery earlier today.

The crash took place on the A31, between Winchester and Alresford, at the junction with Rodfield Lane.

Police say the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin has been informed.

The driver of the Land Rover, who police say is a woman, suffered minor injuries.

Officers are now appealing for information about the crash, which took place around 8.40am.

The collision caused the eastbound carriageway to be closed between the Percy Hobbs roundabout and the junction with Rodfield Lane.

The closure has now been lifted and the road is fully open.

A police spokesperson said: "We would like to thank motorists for their patience while we dealt with this incident.

"Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or either vehicle prior to what happened."
