TWYFORD’S annual duck race has been hailed a success, with organisers saying a big turnout came to support the event.

The race along the River Itchen raised more than £500 for the Twyford community after more than a thousand ducks were released from Twyford Lock.

Hundreds of people followed the ducks, released by Mrs Galaxy UK Ruth Wade, down river before reaching the finish at Shawford Bridge. The winner took home £100.

A crew of kayakers and waders was on hand to make sure the ducks didn’t escape.

There was also a barbecue put on by The Bridge pub and Twyford School put together a ‘best dressed duck’ competition for youngsters.

The annual event is organised by Rooster Marketing on behalf of Twyford Community Project, which is aiming to raise funds for a new youth centre.
