SIR – While Colin Dawe is right to point out local problems in Romsey (the state of these roads is not going to win my vote, 2nd June), he is wrong to suggest that cutting our foreign aid budget would solve the problem.
We shouldn't turn our backs on the world's poorest when we face challenges at home. We can, and should, invest in both local services and international aid to support children around the world to go to school, be vaccinated against diseases such as Polio, and provide clean running water – things we now take for granted.
Poverty anywhere is unacceptable and as a supporter for the ONE Campaign, I'm proud that us Brits never turn a blind eye.
