ALRESFORD Town Council planning committee was buffeted by residents at a packed meeting for failing to support the 200 residents who oppose the proposed 320 homes and industrial estate on farmland off Sun Lane.

Developers Seaward Properties have seen their plans heavily criticised by residents and turned down by the highways authorities on three occasions.

Local people argue traffic chaos on residential roads will result from a proposed junction from the town bypasswill cause by creating a new gateway to the town from which Alresford traffic will spill onto residential streets.

Chairman Russell Gordon-Smith and team listened to the protesters at the meeting at Alresford Recreation Centre on Tuesday evening and promised the town council would submit a comprehensive criticism about the latest proposal by the developer, before Winchester city councillors discuss the issue on Thursday, May 24.
