DESIGNS for a new skate park in Hampshire have been unveiled.

Swanmore Parish Council is seeking funding from Winchester City Council to improve facilities at New Road, alongside the BMX track and football pitches.

The proposal is to replace the existing skatepark with a modern concrete design, as well as to incorporate a four-lane professional grade 100m running track, a 500m jogging and cycle track with solar power lighting, an extended car park and a toilet block. These facilities will be free to use.

In November last year, scores of residents turned out to a consultation to give their views on the upgrade.

The exhibition was attended by pupils from Swanmore Primary School and Swanmore College and village residents.

Councillor Pete Ansty, chairman of the New Road Project committee, said: "We had a great response from skatepark users of all ages and their feedback has formed the basis of the proposed designs. There was a really positive response to the running and jogging and cycle tracks from the local school, college and community.

"We hope Winchester City Council will support us in developing this excellent facility which will benefit not only Swanmore but the surrounding area and provide an additional leisure facility for all ages."

A decision is expected by Winchester City Council in April.
