TWO months of night closures on a major Hampshire motorway began overnight this week.
The M27 is to be shut off eastbound between junction three (Rownhams) and junction five (Stoneham) from 9pm until 6am on weeknights until early March.
It is part of a four-week programme of closures on the eastbound carriageway, to allow for resurfacing.
It will be followed by opposite closures on the westbound carriageway, which are scheduled to begin on March 5.
However, Highways England says the work on the westbound carriageway could begin sooner, if the work on the eastbound carriageway is completed early.
Meanwhile there is also set to be resurfacing overnight at Bar End Road and Chesil Street at the end of March, estimated to take six nights to complete from March 19.
The first phase will be from Chesil Street from its junction with Bridge Street up to and including the Wharf Hill junction, and the second phase is from Bar End Road from its junction with Wharf Hill up to and including the traffic light junction outside County Supplies.
The work will be carried out between 8pm and 6am.
