More than 50 firefighters have been tackling a major blaze at a historic Hampshire mill.

Crews from across the county were called to the fire at Whitchurch, just north of Winchester, at 10.10pm last night.

There were 12 fire engines from Whitchurch, Overton, Andover, Sutton Scotney, Winchester, Basingstoke, Eastleigh and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service as well as support vehicles.

The blaze damaged the ground floor, first floor and roof. Of the building in London Road.

 Nobody was hurt.

Firefighters remain at the scene this morning.

The 17th century mill was one used to make bank notes for the Bank of England.

Over the years its picturesque gardens have been opened up as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

It also hosts the Hampshire Country and Garden Festival every year.
