POLICE in Hedge End seized a motorbike as part of a Hampshire-wide crackdown on motorbikes and mini-motos being used illegally and for antisocial behaviour.

Officers struck three days after issuing a warning to the rider for riding a mini-motorbike illegally and causing a nuisance on the Pilands Wood parkland in Bursledon.

Three days later the rider, who has not been named, was found in control of a road-legal Kawasaki Eliminator motorbike on Mallards Moor, which is not a public road.

Because it was his second warning, officers seized the bike.

Last month, around 20 mini-motorbikes across Hampshire were destroyed after being seized by police.

The county's most serious incident saw a 16-year-old boy sustain serious injuries after losing control of the mini-moto he was riding and going under a bus.

PC Mick Gear, Bike Safe co-ordinator for Hampshire police, said: "It's important that young people are made aware of the risks to themselves and to others by using motorbikes illegally, and it's also vital that we enforce the law to make communities safer for all.

PC Joe Clarke, of Hedge End police station, said: "We assisted in seizing the motorbike from the owner on Mallards Moor and would like this to serve as a reminder for those using motorbikes illegally."
