THE Oxbridge offers have come pouring in for students at Peter Symonds College, including for two sets of twins.

A total of 53 students from 27 different secondary schools have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Principal Stephen Carville said: “I am absolutely delighted that so many of our students have been offered places to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

“With places at these two prestigious institutions becoming ever more coveted, and with an extremely rigorous selection process, these students have done exceedingly well and proven that hard work pays off.

“This figure puts us among the very top schools and colleges for Oxbridge intake in the country.”

Peter Symonds’ specialist Oxbridge tutor, Heather Wagstaff, added: “Congratulations to those students who have worked incredibly hard to meet a demanding set of entry requirements and we wish them every success with their future studies.”

Among those who received offers were identical twins, Harry and Thomas Ashton-Key.

When waiting for their Oxbridge offers, they agreed to let each other know when they heard if they had been offered places.

Thomas heard first, which meant that Harry had an agonising wait to hear whether he had also been accepted. Fortunately, he heard later the same day.

They said: “We are really excited that we have both been offered places to study physics at the University of Oxford.

“When studying and revising, we bounce ideas off each other and work really well as a team.”

“Being able to attend the same university will make it a much more enjoyable experience for us.”

Twins Henry and Catherine Darlison have also been offered places at Oxbridge, following in the footsteps of their older brother and sister.

They are holding offers to study music at St John’s College and Medicine at Jesus College, Cambridge, respectively.

Catherine said: “We are both absolutely delighted to have offers from the University and have our fingers crossed that we can celebrate together in August.”

Henry added: “If we are successful in getting the grades, we’re not sure how we are going to fit all of our stuff in the car.”

Peter Symonds, with a pass rate of 99 per cent, is the top sixth form college in Hampshire for students achieving the golden AAB grades.

Overall, 1,496 students progressed to university, with 590 students accepting places at the top Russell Group universities.
