THE winners of the 2017 Winchester District Sports Awards were revealed at a ceremony held at the Holiday Inn Winchester.

The event on Thursday February 1 celebrated the achievements and commitment of local coaches, volunteers, and sportsmen and women over the past year.

Sponsored by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, the Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) saw 250 people attend the annual awards ceremony hosted by BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James, which celebrated its 10th year.

South African Cricket player Simon Harmer opened the awards with an inspiring speech.

110 nominations were made across 10 categories before the judging panel whittled down the submissions to select the winners.

Awards were handed out on the night by Cllr David McLean, the Mayor of Winchester, along with the category sponsors.

Cllr Lisa Griffiths, Portfolio Holder for Health & Wellbeing and Chair of the SPAA said:

“This truly inspiring event is in its 10th year - proving just how strong and lasting the Winchester sporting network is. The evening is a fantastic way to celebrate the amazing achievements made by our sporting community throughout the year and it is a privilege to be a part of it. Congratulations to all those involved - I wish you continued success in 2018 and beyond”
