FIONA Khan was just two' good at Stoneham Golf Club last week - setting what is believed to be an unofficial world record.

Playing for Hampshire ladies' second team against Wiltshire, the 41-year-old covered the course's seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth holes in a remarkable total of eight shots, notching an incredible four consecutive twos.

Blitzing her opponent and the testing course, Khan's run was eagle, birdie, eagle, birdie.

"It was better than having a hole-in-one," said the Hockley member, "I had a brilliant day - it would be nice to know if anyone's ever done it before."

The fireworks began on Stoneham's 222-yard par four seventh hole, the Midanbury resident admitting that she received some help from the flagstick. "I struck my tee shot to within a few yards of the green. I used a putter for my second shot and hit the ball a bit too firm. Luckily it hit the pin plumb on and went in."

But from here on, the four-handicapper's class told as she entered what is known in golf as the zone'.

The eighth hole, uphill and 119 yards, was birdied with a six-iron and a 15ft putt and prompted Khan to tell her 11-year-old 11 handicap Wiltshire opponent I'm really sorry. It doesn't often happen that I get two twos in row!' Next came another eagle, this time on the 258-yard ninth. Landing her drive on the downslope to the putting surface, Khan's ball eventually came to rest on the green 30ft from the flag. The putt was duly holed and was the catalyst for county ladies president Chris Stirling, who was watching play, to exclaim this is not normal!' Trying to control her laughter as she reached the tee of the 159-yard tenth, Khan admitted it was becoming hard to focus. "It was not easy to concentrate but I hit my five-iron well and watched it land on the green and filter down the slope to about 25ft past the flag. County captain Bridget Moore then said to me: If you get that one you'll have to buy the champagne!' "As Kira, my opponent, was too young for alcohol, I said I'd get her a pint of Coke if the putt went in - and it duly did.

"I just laughed again when it happened. Kira, too, was great - not getting at all sulky as a player of her age could. I think she was happy for me and chuffed to get a pint out of it!"

Modestly, Khan added: "I had a brilliant day. Just for that few holes I was in the the zone - although broken down it was basically two good drives and a hot putter.

"The whole experience was just surreal. It was better than having a hole-in-one. To achieve four twos by going eagle, birdie, eagle, birdie was unbelievable. It was a lovely day and one I will never forget.

"It would be nice to know if it's happened before - I've texted a few friends and they just can't believe it. When I play Stoneham again I think I'll reach the seventh tee and start smiling, thinking I've been here before and know it won't ever happen again'.

Fittingly, Khan closed out her match with a two on the par three 13th but, by now, Hampshire's supporters didn't really expect anything else.
