Southern Electric Premier League - Division 3.

Hursley Park II (145-9) beat Bashley Rydal (144-9).

Hursley Park's Division I SEPL match against Bashley fell victim to the wet conditions, but the local club took advantage of league rules to send their entire senior team to Bashley to fulfil a 2nd XI fixture in Division 3.

Only Hampshire seamer Billy Taylor was ruled out as Hursley gained a tense, one-wicket victory to boost the 2nd XI's hopes of avoiding relegation.

Jimmy Taylor sent the home side in to bat on a tricky surface and Darryl Steele took a wicket in his first over on his way to returning the impressive figures of 10-5-16-4.

For Bashley, only skipper Knowles (24) and Matt King, who hit a belligerent 29 near the end, showed much resistance as they closed on 144 for 9 from their 50 overs. Extras (37) were the top scorer.

Oli Green (3-31) and Martin Taylor (2-18) were also the among the wickets.

In reply, Hursley slumped to 27 for 4 as John Whiting (4-28) ripped out their top order. But Jimmy Taylor steadied the ship with a patient 22 before the big-hitting Scott Mills cracked three 6s and three 4s in a rapid 56.

Wickets continued to fall, however, and the 17-year-old Steele was joined by 16-year-old Will Evans with the score at 137 for 9. The teenagers managed to add the eight runs required as Hursley scrambled home with three overs to spare and gained 17 precious points.

Hursley's 4th XI suffered a 30-run defeat at Silchester in Hants Regional 3 North East.

Skipper Ian Henderson invited the home side to bat on a very damp surface and teenagers were again the heroes as 13-year-old leg spinner Ali Murtaza claimed 5 for 43 and left-arm spinner Sam Thaker 1 for 14 in their 12-over stints.

There were two wicket apiece for Dave Westbrook and Tom Winter as Silchester were dismissed for a modest 121.

But Hursley fared no better and slumped to 10 for 4 before 15-year-old Chris Ratcliffe raised their hopes with an impressive 42. But there was little support for him and the innings closed at 91 all out as the home attack made full use of the conditions.
