Southern Electric Premier League Division 1.

Portsmouth are facing almost certain relegation from the ECB Southern Electric Premier League after being hit with a massive 87-point deduction for fielding two ineligible players this season.

They were originally docked 29 points for fielding Slough left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed in two matches after the former Pakistan Test player had failed to get a transfer from the Home Counties Premier League.

Now they've been hit with a further 58 point deduction in respect of Alamgir Khan, who had played First Class cricket in Pakistan last winter and had turned out 41 times for Rawalpindi in the past ten years.

"Amalgir Khan does not comply with SPL registration requirements and is not eligible to play," commented Premier League secretary Steve Vear.

The punishments have left Portsmouth stuck at the bottom of the table, with a minus eight points tally.

Portsmouth 2nd XI have been docked 22 points for a Premier League Division 3 match Khan played at South Wilts last month.
