Fareham Nomads Summer Open Meet.

WINCHESTER CITY Penguins swimmer Tom Mills took joint Top Boy Award in the boys' 12/13 years age group and also overall Top Boy Award at the Fareham Nomads Summer Open Meet held at the Quays in Southampton recently.

Over 30 Penguins took part in the competition, which attracted clubs from all over the south of England, and is the last big meet of the season for those without National Qualification Times.

Tom grabbed first place in the 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle and set new competition records in the process. He also won the 100m freestyle and took second in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke. Mills snatched third place in the 50m and fourth place in the 100m breaststroke, as well as taking sixth in the 50m butterfly and tenth in the 100m butterfly.

Remarkably, he achieved impressive personal bests in all ten events and achieved a sub-60 second time in the 100m freestyle for the first time.

Also swimming really well at the competition was Matthew Ryall who took joint third place in the boys' 11/under age group. He also swam personal bests in every event, taking second place in the 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly, fourth place in 50m freestyle and 200m IM and 13th place in 100m breaststroke.

Also in the same age group, Christopher Sharpe's best swim gave him third place in the 200m freestyle, and Oliver Heath took fifth place in the 50m backstroke.

Turning to the girls competition, Claire Wills gave a strong performance by coming second in the 50m breaststroke, and fourth in the 100m breaststroke in the over 16 years age group.

In the 12/13-year-old age group, Emily Butcher's best swims gave her third places in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke and fourth in the 50m backstroke, and in the 14/15-year-old age group Laura Sharpe took fifth place in the 50m breaststroke.

Throughout the age groups, a further 31 Winchester City Penguins swimmers also achieved good personal bests, which capped off a very successful weekend for Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club. The swimmers came away with a high proportion of personal bests and clutch of trophies!
