Eastleigh 4, Gosport Borough 0.

Eastleigh achieved a 4-0 friendly success against a Gosport team that won the Wessex League last season and with it promotion.

Gosport are managed by Alex Pike whom many people remember as the manager of Wimborne's FA Vase winning side of 1992.

The recent rain had taken its toll on Gosport's pitch and the match originally scheduled for Gosport was switched to Eastleigh.

Eastleigh took the lead in the ninth minute when Justin Bennett headed home a cross from Robbie Marshall for his maiden Eastleigh goal. It became 2-0 shortly afterwards when Marshall scored with a bicycle kick following a cross from the right.

The hosts notched a third when Bennett headed a cross from Ellis Green into the path of Riviere.

Shortly before half-time Jamie Pullen had to make a save from Ashley Jarvis who a year ago was with Eastleigh, while Damian Scannell came close for the home side.

In the second half Eastleigh's Karim El Sahali was sent off for a challenge on Kevin Gill and because of this may miss the start of the league season.

Despite having ten men it was Eastleigh who scored the next goal when Steve Watts set up Justin Bennett who made no mistake.

Both Bennett and Watts hit the woodwork, while Wayne Shaw, who was playing for Gosport in this match, was required to make some good saves. For Gosport Kevin Gill came close with a bicycle kick.

Eastleigh were due to play away to Christchurch last night (Aug 1) and entertain Weymouth on Saturday.
