FIREFIGHTERS donated £1,000 to help the children's section of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.
They raised the money through several fund-raising activities, including duck races' and washing cars for charity.
The cash is going towards Sophie's Place, which is the children's assessment area at the hospital in Romsey Road.
The project is to offer a cheery and informal environment to minimise the stress felt by youngsters during diagnosis.
Firefighters chose Sophie's Place because a couple of the children of staff at Winchester Fire Station had been treated at the hospital.
* STAFF are trying to trace previous employees at a fire service depot in Winchester which is to relocate from its Winnall base later this year after 50 years.
The maintenance workshops in Easton Lane are due to close in December and move to Eastleigh, but current workers are keen to get in touch with past colleagues for a reunion on Saturday, September 1.
Ex-employees can ring the depot on 01962 849277 for more details.
