THEATRE Royal Winchester has re-launched its’ Engagement programme including a refreshed youth theatre, Young Theatre Royal.

There is also a new initiative, Winchester People’s Theatre, open to everyone 17 years and above.

Members of the new groups will have the opportunity to perform on stage at Theatre Royal Winchester as well as take part in Hat Fair 2018.

Young Theatre Royal aims to provide opportunities for young people aged 5-16 years old, empowering them to create bold dynamic performance through being part of a strong ensemble company.

They welcome and encourage young people from all backgrounds and abilities to get involved, learn theatre skills, build confidence and have fun.

Young Theatre Royal sessions take place in Winchester city centre, Bishop's Waltham, Stanmore and South Wonston throughout the week.

The groups range from 5-8 years, 9-11 years and 12-16 years to ensure that workshops are tailored to create effective learning experiences for all. There are workshop options for both theatre and musical theatre within the programme.

Winchester People’s Theatre is for those budding actors aged 17 years-107 years to bring together individuals who are passionate about creating inspiring new theatre working in collaboration with creative professionals. By putting its members at the helm of the work it produces, Winchester People’s Theatre will create honest and engaging performances, giving local people a voice and exciting artistic experiences. The sessions will take place in Winchester city centre on Tuesday evenings.

Registration will work on a first come, first served basis. Young Theatre Royal starts week commencing September 18 and run for a ten-week term.

A free session is being offered for anyone interested to ‘try before you buy’. For details contact Emma Nias at or call 01962 844600.
