TWO people are fighting for their lives after a crash on a Hampshire road this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to Rownhams Lane, North Baddesley after a Jaguar and BMW were involved in a collision close to Winstone Crescent.

Residents rushed outside to help the casualties in the vehicles following the crash at around 2.40pm.

People in area described hearing a "huge bang".

One local resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I heard a horrendous bang. My husband came out straight away. He said that the two fronts of the cars were badly damaged.

"He then started directing traffic to come round."

Another resident, from Hoe Lane, said: "It was one hell of a bang, my neighbour whose a nurse came out and helped the injured people."

Police, ambulance and fire services all a attended the scene and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance  landed in a nearby field.

Police cordoned off the scene as the injured were treated at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance said: "We got the call at 2.42pm about a two vehicle road traffic collision.

"We sent the critical care car from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, a ambulance crew, a rapid response vehicle and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

"They were on the scene assessing and treating two patients, both of whom suffered potentially life threatening injuries.

"They were assessed and treated by all the crew and were both taken to Southampton General Hospital by land ambulance."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: "It was a two vehicle collision and we have one rear seat passenger trapped given treatment by us until the ambulance crews arrived.

"Her care has been passed over the ambulance service."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 2.42pm to reports of a two vehicle collision on Rownhams Lane, North Baddesley.

"A BMW and a Jaguar were involved. The road was blocked as a result of the collision.

"The driver of the BMW has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
